In a continued push to curb the spread of TB and promote preventive care, CFI, through its Oplan Manunuyod Project, an initiative supported by
Fundación Vicente Ferrer (FVF), spearheaded a two-day TB Health Education Activity in selected Rural Health Units (RHUs) in Rodriguez, Montalban, Rizal last April 12 and 15.
The activity aimed to strengthen community awareness about TB and TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), particularly among household contacts of TB patients or those most at risk of the disease. The sessions emphasized early detection, timely diagnosis, proper treatment, and the importance of completing both TB and TPT regimens to ensure full recovery and stop further transmission.
Community Navigators from CFI’s partner community-based organization, Montalban Laban Lungs Philippines, led the interactive discussions, addressing misconceptions around TB and TPT and highlighting practical steps for prevention and care. They were joined by RHU nurses who gave in-depth lectures on the significance of early detection and the life-saving impact of adhering to treatment protocols.
“Our goal is not only to educate but to empower households with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their loved ones,” said one of the project’s Community Navigators. “By reaching out at the grassroots level, we’re making TB prevention a shared responsibility.”
Participants received a hot meal and five kilograms of rice as tokens of appreciation for their active engagement and commitment to community health.
Together with FVF, Montalban Laban Lungs Philippines, and the Municipality of Rodriguez, CFI – Oplan Manunuyod Project remains steadfast in its mission to promote inclusive, community-based approaches in the fight against TB.
