CFI celebrates Nutrition Month by distributing nutritious food and sports materials in Culion, Palawan

Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) joined the nationwide celebration of Nutrition Month with the elementary and high school students in Barangay Balala, Culion, Palawan, on July 28–29, 2025. Students and parents from Balala Elementary School received nutritious food packs, while high school students from select schools and members of the Parish Youth Ministry were given sports materials at the Balala Sports Complex to support their growth and development.
Dr. John Jefferson Besa, CFI’s Senior Program Manager for Health, emphasized the importance of eating nutritious food in his talk to elementary students, their parents, and teachers at Balala Elementary School. Meanwhile, Jayson Pascua, CFI’s Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer, discussed the vital role of parents and guardians in ensuring their children’s nutritional well-being. Dr. Besa also emphasized the value of consuming locally sourced food such as sweet potatoes and fish. The initiative was supported by Ms. Ma. Socorro Alcantara of the Department of Education and Ms. Kay Apryl Collado, Acting Municipal Health Officer of Culion, who both expressed their gratitude to CFI. Nutritious food packs containing locally sourced vegetables, fruits, rice, and fish were distributed to the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Balala Elementary School.
Recognizing the importance of physical activity for the youth, CFI also distributed sports materials to select high schools and the Parish Youth group in the municipality. Hon. Fel Ford Solas, member of the Municipal Council’s Sports Committee, expressed his appreciation to CFI and assisted in handing out the materials, which included board games, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, volleyballs, and basketballs. This initiative also aligns with the municipal plan to support local athletes in individual sports categories.
