When others saw a place of isolation, Father Ola saw people who needed someone to care.
He came to Culion at the age of 60, choosing not retirement, but a life of service. For 18 years, he walked with people affected by Hansenโs diseaseโsharing their struggles, celebrating their victories, and working tirelessly to bring hope where it was needed most.
His compassion reached beyond the walls of the church. He advocated for treatment, supported education, sought resources, and helped build opportunities for a community long defined by stigma.
From his commitment came Culion Foundation, Inc., founded in 1976 and carrying his vision forward for 50 years.
Letโs take a look at the life, service, and legacy of the man who helped shape CFIโs mission.
