From October 7 to 9, 2026, healthcare professionals from various local government units (LGUs) across Quezon Province, including physicians, nurses, midwives, and medical technologists, gathered at St. Jude Cooperative Hotel and Events Center in Tayabas City, Quezon, for a three-day training on
The capacity-building activity aimed to strengthen participantsโ knowledge, technical competencies, and practical skills in implementing essential TB prevention interventions. Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and guided learning activities, participants enhanced their understanding of systematic contact investigation, TB screening, the identification of individuals eligible for preventive treatment, and the appropriate provision of TPT. Special emphasis was placed on the proper administration, reading, and interpretation of TST to support accurate assessment and informed clinical decision-making.
In collaboration with DOH-CHD Region IV-A, the Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO), and the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) facilitated the training to equip frontline healthcare workers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to apply evidence-based TB prevention strategies in their respective health facilities and communities.
The activity also reinforced the importance of early identification, timely contact investigation, and appropriate preventive treatment in reducing the risk of progression from TB infection to active TB disease. Beyond strengthening individual competencies, the training highlighted the importance of a capable and responsive healthcare workforce in advancing community-based TB prevention efforts.
Through sustained capacity-building initiatives and stronger partnerships, CFI remains committed to empowering healthcare workers, expanding access to quality TB preventive services, and supporting collective efforts toward a TB-free Philippines.
