On the final day of the Lakbay-Aral, the CFI delegation visited Puerto Galera Hospital and met with Dr. Ulysses L. Yaco, Chief of Hospital, for a meaningful discussion on the realities of local healthcare delivery. He underscored the importance of health education in helping communities seek timely care and preventing patients from arriving at health facilities in critical condition.
The delegation concluded the visit with a stop at the Muelle Cultural Heritage Park, where they explored the Galleon Ship Museum and learned more about Puerto Galeraโs rich history as a Spanish-era port. A walk along the boardwalk and surrounding mangroves offered a quiet moment for reflection on the provinceโs cultural and ecological heritage.
As the Lakbay-Aral came to a close, the four-day journey offered valuable insight into the lived realities of Indigenous communities in Mindoro. Through dialogue, site visits, and shared learning, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the health system gaps affecting these communitiesโand of the opportunities to support more inclusive, responsive, and community-centered interventions moving forward.
