As a highly urbanized city and major transportation hub in Southern Luzon, Lucena City sees constant movement of people for work, trade, and travel, making tuberculosis screening essential for early detection and preventing transmission in the community.
Through its TB ACF Shield Project, Culion Foundation, Inc. conducted an active case finding activity in Barangay Ibabang Dupay. A total of 152 individuals were screened, with 30 identified as presumptive TB cases. By integrating TB screening into routine consultations, individuals with possible symptoms were promptly identified and referred for further evaluation.
This initiative highlights the importance of facility- and community-based ACF in high-mobility areas like Lucena City, where early detection is vital in preventing disease transmission. The activity was made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Health – Center for Health Development, Quezon Provincial Health Office, Local Government Unit of Lucena City, Lucena City Health Office, and Philippine Business for Social Progress.
