Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) commemorated Father Olazábal Day on September 10, with a meaningful activity at its head office in Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City. The annual observance honors Father Javier Olazábal, a Spanish priest whose mission in Culion, Palawan, was instrumental in eliminating leprosy and uplifting the lives of those affected by the disease.
As part of the tribute, CFI staff set up an informative booth at the Norfil Foundation building lobby, showcasing stories and historical facts about Father Olazábal’s compassion and service. Visitors were reminded of his deep dedication, not only to medical care but also to breaking the stigma surrounding leprosy by fearlessly holding, hugging, and comforting patients.
To keep his memory alive, CFI staff also distributed candies to children in Barangay Paligsahan, symbolizing Father Olazábal’s fondness for sharing simple joys with young people in Culion. Fondly remembered for carrying candies and cookies in his pockets, his small yet heartfelt gestures continue to inspire the foundation’s mission of compassion, inclusion, and service for vulnerable communities.
