Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) proudly participated in the Leprosy Symposium organized by the Department of Health โ Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) on May 21, 2026, at the Makabagong San Juan Theatre in San Juan City. The symposium served as a valuable platform for healthcare professionals and advocates to strengthen knowledge on the early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and case management of leprosy.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of CFI Senior Health Program Manager Dr. Maria Julieta C. Recidoro on the development of the Kilatis-Kutis Screen-Checked Formโa skin screening recording and reporting tool designed to standardize documentation across healthcare facilities and community-based screening activities. Currently under pilot testing, the tool is envisioned for nationwide implementation to strengthen contact investigation and improve leprosy surveillance systems.
CFI Executive Director Eugenio M. Caccam, Jr. also delivered an inspirational message emphasizing that despite common misconceptions, leprosy cases continue to persist today. He underscored the importance of sustained awareness, compassion, and collective action in addressing stigma and ensuring proper care and support for affected individuals.
The symposium also provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and collaboration with experts from the Philippine Dermatological Society, PhilHealth, the National Privacy Commission, and the World Health Organization. Through these exchanges, participants gained valuable insights that strengthened the shared commitment toward a more inclusive, informed, and stigma-free approach to leprosy care.
