The Culion Foundation Inc. partnered with the Department of Health - Metro Manila Center for Health Development, Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Cluster to conduct the National Leprosy Control and Prevention (NLCP) Coordinative Meeting and Orientation for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in the National Capital Region last March 10, 2026, at Madison Hotel 101, Quezon City.

Dr. Onikka Bernice Jara, MD, MPH, Senior Program Manager for Health II, delivered the welcome remarks and introduced CFI’s programs, emphasizing the vital role of BHWs as frontliners who carry out essential community health work.

Dr. Hanna Marie Peñaverde, Senior Project Officer III, discussed the roles and responsibilities of BHWs in supporting leprosy prevention and control efforts.

Dr. Maria Julieta Recidoro, Senior Program Manager for Health, introduced the "Kilatis Kutis" Skin Check Form, a tool developed through collaboration with Culion Foundation Inc., DOH-MMCHD, and the Philippine Dermatological Society. Moreover, Dr. Recidoro also conducted an interactive two-part activity in which BHWs applied their learnings in filling out the tool.

Through partnerships and empowered community health workers, we move closer to strengthening early detection and leprosy control efforts in our communities.
