The Provincial Government of Batangas, together with its health partners and with the strong support of Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI), marked this year’s Lung Month Celebration with the theme “For a #TBFree Nation, YOUth can #EndTB” last August 22, 2025, at Solano Hotel, Lipa City, Batangas.
The celebration highlighted the vital role of young people in fighting tuberculosis (TB), one of the country’s long-standing public health challenges.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Josephine Gutierrez, Provincial Health Officer, emphasized the importance of unity in strengthening the province’s TB prevention and control efforts. She acknowledged the dedication of health workers and partner organizations whose tireless commitment continues to make an impact in the communities.
The event also featured a video message from Dr. Voltaire Guadalupe, MPH, OIC-Regional Director of CHD IV-A, who highlighted the government’s continuing programs and encouraged multi-sectoral collaboration to achieve a TB-free CALABARZON.
Representing the ACCESS-TB PBSB Project, James Aeron Carreon, Regional Coordinator, conveyed his support and reaffirmed the youth’s crucial role in spreading awareness and sustaining the momentum against TB.
Meanwhile, Eugenio M. Caccam, Jr., Executive Director of CFI, underscored the transformative power of the youth. “We believe that the youth have a big role in defeating TB. As Dr. Jose Rizal said, the youth are the hope of the Motherland. We are confident that you can fight against TB because you have the tools and technology to influence others in this battle,” he noted.
A highlight of the program was the recognition of municipalities and health workers who had made significant contributions to the province’s goal of eliminating TB. The acknowledgment served both as an appreciation of their efforts and as an inspiration for others to participate in the TB elimination campaign.
To close the event, Dr. Eloisa Baylosis-Derain, Provincial Health Team Leader of Batangas Province, delivered the closing remarks, reiterating the collective responsibility of both government and communities in sustaining the province’s TB-free vision.
With youth leaders, health professionals, and partner organizations united under a common goal, the Lung Month celebration in Batangas became a meaningful reminder that ending TB is possible—through shared commitment, innovation, and the power of the next generation.
