CFI partnered with Life Matters International in the conduct of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training last January 22 – 26, 2024 in Culion, Palawan.
The aim of this capacity-building workshop is to equip health care workers most especially the midwives in the rural health unit to enhance their capacity to provide comprehensive maternal healthcare, facilitate early diagnosis of obstetric complications, and contribute to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in resource-limited settings. A cohort of physicians, nurses, and midwives or otherwise known as โphysician extendersโ participated in the training.
As a valued partner, CFI initiated engagement and coordination with local government units (LGUs) and relevant stakeholders as well as provided logistical support during the training.
Maternal mortality remains a significant public health concern in the Philippines, despite efforts to improve maternal healthcare services. There are several factors contributing to maternal mortality in the Philippines, to wit: (1) limited access to and availability of quality maternal healthcare services; (2) socioeconomic factors such as poverty; (3) teenage pregnancy; (4) health system challenges such as insufficient funding, inadequate health workforce and gaps in service delivery.
