Culion Foundation and PBSP’s First TB-ACF Program in Masbate Screens Over 4,000 Patients, Prioritizing Vulnerable Groups

In November 2021, the Culion Foundation, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), had its first TB-Active Case Finding (TB-ACF) program in the province of Masbate. Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the unique obstacles presented by the island’s geography, the initiative proved to be a resounding success, screening more than 4,000 patients. Prioritizing the most vulnerable groups in the community, the program exemplified the unwavering commitment of the Culion Foundation and PBSP to combat tuberculosis (TB) and improve public health in the Philippines.

The Culion Foundation and PBSP recognized the critical importance of identifying TB cases among high-risk populations, such as seniors, people living with HIV (PLHIV), immunocompromised individuals, and smokers. By targeting these groups, the program aimed to provide timely intervention and care, ensuring a healthier and more resilient community.

As the Culion Foundation and PBSP continue their journey in improving public health across the Philippines, the success of the TB-ACF program in Masbate will undoubtedly fuel future endeavors. The lessons learned from the initiative, the power of collaboration, and the prioritization of vulnerable groups will guide future efforts to create a healthier and more equitable society.
