Culion Foundation Inc. has been at the forefront of the nation's campaign to eradicate tuberculosis (TB). As part of its ongoing TB in the Workplace Project, the foundation recently convened a crucial meeting with the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) and two identified cluster groups: Samahan ng mga Manggagawa at Manininda sa Palengke ng Kamuning (SaMMPalKa) and Center for Community Transformation (CCT). The primary objective of the meeting, which took place on June 9, 2023, at the Cocoon Boutique Hotel in Quezon City, was to review the project's progress and assess the implementation of TB policies within the city.

During the meeting, participants focused on reinforcing the referral system between the cluster groups and the local health department. A well-functioning referral system is critical for the effective management of TB cases, ensuring timely detection, and providing appropriate care and support to those affected. By collaborating and enhancing this system, the involved parties aim to streamline communication and facilitate faster responses to TB cases within the community.

Another key objective of the meeting was to harmonize TB efforts among all stakeholders for the remainder of 2023. By aligning their strategies and action plans, the cluster groups and the health department can pool resources, share best practices, and collectively work towards reducing the burden of TB in Quezon City. Such coordination ensures a more comprehensive approach to tackling the disease and enhances the overall impact of their initiatives.

The meeting served as a timely platform to discuss and assess the progress of the action plan and policy that were jointly signed by the cluster groups earlier in the year. These documents outline various programs, including active case finding within the groups and conducting educational lectures on TB. Additionally, information dissemination campaigns through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials such as flyers are part of the initiative to raise awareness about TB and its prevention.

Through the TB in the Workplace Project, the foundation strives to empower workplaces with the knowledge and tools necessary to address TB effectively. By leveraging the resources available within their localities, workplaces can play a crucial role in creating a healthier environment and contributing to the overall efforts to end TB. As the project continues, the collective efforts of all stakeholders will undoubtedly contribute to raising awareness, enhancing prevention, and providing better care for TB patients. Through such collaborative endeavors, the dream of eradicating TB in the country may become a reality sooner than anticipated.
