On September 10, 2025, after commemorating the legacy of Father Olazabal in CFI’s Head Office, Culion, Palawan—the island where Fr. Javier Olazabal, SJ, devoted his life and service to God— also marked the 37th Memorial Day in his honor. The event celebrated his life, service, and mission while uniting the church, local government, schools, and community groups.
The commemoration began with a community Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Patrick Echeverria, SJ, Rev. Fr. Neopito Saison, SJ, and Rev. Fr. Enrico Uy, followed by a re-enactment of Fr. Olazabal’s life by students of Loyola College of Culion. The priests also led the blessing of his tomb, with flowers offered by various agencies.
In the afternoon, an Inter-School Quiz Bee and Slogan Writing Contest engaged elementary and high school students, instilling in them the values of compassion, service, and faith that Fr. Olazabal embodied.
Spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Culion, the program concluded with an awarding ceremony and closing remarks from Municipal Treasurer Mr. Renato V. De Vera.
More than a tribute, the commemoration served as a reminder of Fr. Olazabal’s enduring legacy, one of compassion, service, and unity that continues to inspire Culion today.
